One of the very first actors of bollywood to come forward and reveal about suffering from a mental illness was this actor. Not only she shared her battles with depression, she took it a step forward and established a centre for mental health to help people going through the same.
2. Anushka Sharma
Anushka Sharma suffers from anxiety and she is not afraid to speak up about it. In an interview, she said, “I have anxiety. And I’m treating my anxiety. I’m on medication for my anxiety. Why am I saying this? Because it’s a completely normal thing. It’s a biological problem. In my family, there have been cases of depression. More and more people, should talk openly about it. There is nothing shameful about it or something to hide. If you had a constant stomach pain, wouldn’t you go to the doctor? It’s that simple. I want to make this my mission, to take any shame out of this, to educate people about this.”
3. Shah Rukh Khan
The Badshah of Bollywood has suffered from depression post his shoulder surgery in 2010. He revealed that due to his surgery, he was suffering from situational depression, but now he is out of it and is happy.
4. Ranveer Singh
Ranveer Singh’s friend put up a status on Facebook about committing suicide, and before anyone could help, he shot himself and it left a deep impact on Ranveer. A source close to Ranveer said, “Ranveer doesn’t like to show his emotions in public, but people close to him, especially Deepika, knew that this tragedy had hit him hard. She saw him struggle with his grief, mixed with guilt. He even saw a therapist for a while. Deepika, was his silent support at the time, and she saw first- hand how depression was a serious disorder.”
5. Varun Dhawan
This happy-go-lucky actor revealed that he was battling depression, while shooting the movie, Badlapur. In an interview, he said, “I was depressed. I was not clinically declared depressed, but I was heading there. I was very sad to a certain degree. I don’t want to use the term ‘depression’ loosely, because it’s a serious illness. It definitely affected my mental health. I was prescribed, and did see a doctor for it, as well.”
